How Allergies are related to OSA
Allergens such as mold, dust, dander, and pollen can flare up our sinuses causing congestion, mouth breathing, watery eyes, and excess phlegm, impacting our breathing! When we lie down to sleep, phlegm can clog up our nose and airway, causing snoring. Combined with the relaxation of the tongue towards the back of your throat, this can lead to pauses in your breathing, resulting in sleep apnea!
So, how can we manage this? By taking proactive steps to care for our airway! Noticing what triggers our allergies, we can take action by using allergy medication, flushing our sinuses, applying Breathe Right strips, and utilizing steam treatments (ie. Humidifier) to ain in clearing up the airway. By incorporating these strategies, we can reduce the chances of sleep apnea impacting our health!
